What is RailGlobe?
RailGlobe is built for people who love trains.
It’s a growing community project to map and follow locomotives at heritage railways, museums, and preservation sites worldwide.
Whether you’re a railfan, historian, or traveller, RailGlobe helps you discover where every engine calls home.
The database currently includes 3,092 entries, covering only standard-gauge locomotives.
I try to update the database when a locomotive has moved location, and this information is shown on the Heritage Railways and Museums that are split between base location (where the loco normally is) and current location (on loan or visiting another place away from the base or away for overhaul)
Why did you make RailGlobe?
At the start, I created RailGlobe to bring locational information about locomotives in the UK after going to a steam gala and forgetting that there was a mainline steam locomotive based at the railway for mainline tours…. Since then, I expanded the reason for this site to include UK and some UK-built trains overseas and overseas trains that are in the UK.
What’s next?
- Add GWR Standard gauge
- Add LMS Standard gauge
- Add SR Standard gauge
- Add LNER Standard gauge
- Add pages of history for locomotives
- A gallery
- Adding scrapped locomotives
- A railway timeline
- And more, but please use the form to let me know if you have any suggestions on additional items I could include.
What can you do to help?
While I do my best to stay up to date on all the latest railway news, there are always things I might miss. If you spot something missing or incorrect, I’d appreciate it if you let me know. Every bit of information helps keep RailGlobe as accurate and up to date as possible.
